Adventures in Arctic Science: Stories from Sikuliaq

Hear from fish ecologist Lorena Edenfield and marine engineer Kevin Reinhardt about the ins and outs of conducting science on board a floating research lab in Arctic waters. Edenfield and Reinhardt will share behind-the-scenes photographs and stories of life at sea, including many from their time on Sikuliaq, an ice-capable research vessel managed by the University of Alaska Fairbanks. Free, registration encouraged.

This program is presented in conjunction with Arctic Marine Science: Sikuliaq to Shore.

About the Speakers
Lorena Edenfield earned her MS in Fisheries at the University of Alaska Fairbanks and has spent over 20 years working in the environmental field. She has sailed on numerous Arctic research expeditions, including many on the R/V Sikuliaq. She loves to be at sea and to share stories from the field.

Kevin Reinhardt earned his BS in Marine Engineering at the California Maritime Academy. A lifelong love of the sea and fascination with the way things work turned into a career supporting Arctic research, including 11 years as an engineer with Sikuliaq. He revels in the creative challenges of keeping the boat afloat and the science flowing smoothly, even a thousand miles from the nearest hardware store.
