Hear from award-winning author Nan Elliot as she reads excerpts from her upcoming book “To the Summit!”—the 1979 Dog Mushing Expedition Up Denali. Elliot tells the story of the first ascent of Denali by dog team led by legendary guide Ray Genet, 4-time Iditarod champion Susan Butcher, and musher Joe Redington Sr., known by many as the “Father of the Iditarod.”

Nan Elliot is an award-winning author, writer, filmmaker, and journalist. She lives in Anchorage, Alaska, and is the author of “I’d Swap My Old Skidoo for You”: A Portrait of Characters on the Last Frontier (1989) and co-author of National Geographic Guide to America's Outdoors: Alaska (2001).
