Learn basic hand-carving techniques from Eric Hamar (Haida) while creating a ladle in a two-day workshop. The carved ladle project is a great introductory carving project for students to learn the process of using two common carving tools: the hook knife and the adze.
While especially relevant for Alaska Native participants, the class is open to all. Registration required, participants must commit to the full two-day class. $30 materials fee (scholarships available—email programs@anchoragemuseum.org). Attendance at both sessions is required. Participants will break for lunch; attendees can bring a lunch with them or opt to eat at a nearby café.
This workshop is supported in part by The CIRI Foundation, the Curating Indigenous Circumpolar Cultural Sovereignty program and the Alaska Native Arts Foundation.
