About the Artist
Tlingit, Ts’mysen and Chippewa artist Ronnie Fairbanks was born and raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico. A middle and high school teacher of Native arts carving in Craig, Alaska, Fairbanks’ medium of art is Northwest coast formline design. He finds inspiration in the rhythms and activities of everyday life: on the water in a fishing boat, skateboarding around town, or flipping through books of formline “Old Masters.” His designs maintain many of the fundamental rules of the art form while incorporating fresh references and motifs.
