Wilderness First Aid Class

In-Person Event

Stay prepared for the unexpected on and off the trail in this two-day introduction to wilderness medicine. Learn from Deb Ajango of Safety Ed how to assess risks and manage emergencies in the backcountry. Instruction will take place in the classroom and potentially in an outdoor setting. 

This is a 16-20 hour certification course over two full days. Course completion results in a Wilderness First-Aid certification issued by Wilderness Medical Associates, valid for three years. Registration required; registration is for both days. $250. Recommended for ages 18+ but exceptions can be made for mature teens aged 16+ with prior communication. About the Instructor
Deb Ajango has over 30 years of teaching experience in the field and in the classroom, preparing Wilderness Medicine education and risk management consultation. Ajango has written two books on safety-related topics: Lessons Learned I: A Guide to Accident Prevention and Crisis Response, and Lessons Learned II: Using Case Studies and History to Improve Safety Education. She has written numerous articles and chapters on risk management, emergency action planning, and wilderness medicine, and is currently a member of the faculty committee for Wilderness Medical Associates International. 

This class is connected to the current exhibition, How to Survive, about hope and innovative possibilities in this age of climate crisis. Visit the exhibition at the Anchorage Museum through Jan 19, 2025.
